CGR Undertow – METROID PRIME for Gamecube review

July 21st, 2010

Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Metroid Prime from Retro Studios and Nintendo for the Nintendo GameCube. Putting players behind the visor of heroine Samus Aran, Metroid Prime provides a new perspective for Metroid’s classic exploration-based gameplay and is widely considered one of Nintendo’s all-time greatest releases. This review features Metroid Prime gameplay footage and commentary from the Nintendo Game Cube showing Metroid Prime game play on Gamecube upconverted to HD.

haah derek is a ninty fanboy. His poor attempt to excuse the annoying control scheme by calling it ‘retro’ and fitting for an rpg is a huge sign of it.

@earthad666 Well my man, just ’cause it’s not made by retro doesn’t mean it’ll be bad; zero mission, fusion and super were all non retro involved, and they’re all fantastic.
However, if you have issues with the new one because of the apparent ‘forced’ story (I call it forced because you have to follow it to progress, while in the prime games they were all optional scans), then I totally understand and agree really. I like how there is no story to Metroid, you love Samus because you are Samus.

This game was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKING AMAZING when it first came out, the attention to detail was phenomenal. Even today, it’s still fantastic, it is just soooo good. Oh my god… So good….

For anyone complaining about CGR Undertow’s choice of game to review, I say you should all promptly shut your whore mouths. Really, don’t be assholes because they don’t review YOUR games. If you want more reviews for non-nintendo stuff, get your ass out of here and go find another reviewer.

metroid prime 1-3 are great. not so keen on the new metroid -as nothing to do with retro studios. Guess we will have to wait and see

@gameman64141 Reading online polls, Samus says it that way in the Other M opening…. As well as the weird announcer guy in SSBB.

Good review. This game is a classic. But the back tracking does get pretty bad in the later parts of the game when you need to hunt down the 12 artifacts.

Derek is always picking the greatest games to review. So awesome to hear other people have an opinion near mine in how awesome a certain game is.
