Here’s a video of a little gamecube pad to Wii Remote adapter that I rigged up. The console sees the adapter as a Classic Controller. It’s missing some buttons (-, home, ZL), but those are rarely used (Start maps to +). This lets me play SSBB, Mario Kart, and VC games using a plain gamecube pad without having to use the questionable Classic Controller, and without a wavebird. It also works with the System Menu, as you can see in the beginning of the video. Since wavebirds are out of production, this is probably the only way of using an official Nintendo gamecube pad with the Wii, wirelessly. The guts: a PIC18F4520 microcontroller, and that’s pretty much it. A couple resistors and capacitors, and the quartz crystal are all that there is to the hardware part. I cut up a Nunchuk extension cord for the Wiimote plug, and made a crappy GC connector out of a piece of circuit board. This uses the Wii Remote’s power supply. The big flashing board that you can see to the left is an FPGA used as a logic analyzer for debugging, but it has nothing to do with the actual adapter (I unplug it halfway through the video).

Classic Game Room HD reviews BITTOS for Nintendo Wii, a downloadable game from wiiware (technically called Bittos+ ). This is a catchy puzzle game which requires some getting used to but packs some unique challenge that separates it from other puzzle games like Tetris and Columns. Make bittos (or bits) blocks of more than 4 square things to score points and keep a multiplier going full speed ahead. This CGR review of Bittos for Nintendo Wii has gameplay from Bittos+ showing Bittos + puzzle gameplay game play in action from Nintendo Wii.
Classic Game Room HD reviews BLOOD BOWL for PC. Fantasy football based in the Warhammer universe, turn based strategy based on the Blood Bowl board game by Games Workshop. An interesting concept with complex strategy and gameplay await dedicated players already familiar with the game (or those with some serious time to learn). Developers take note, please make a tutorial with step by step instructions that guide inexperienced players by the hand, it makes life easier and games more fun. Blood Bowl may look cool and have some awesome potential with a single player campaign and multiplayer action. Lousy instructions coupled with a shoddy tutorial make a unique game an unapproachable game for the masses. This CGR review of Blood Bowl has gameplay from Blood Bowl set in the Warhammer universe showing Blood Bowl game play on PC.
